Rumor has it that your Tour the Montour entry fee is all we need this year to keep the trail in perfect condition. But here’s the hard truth: Portable toilet rental/service costs $35,000 every year. Repaving the limestone surface costs $18,000+ per mile. To cover the cost of just one of these bills, Tour the Montour would need to attract thousands of riders. That’s not a practical solution for our venue, a narrow trail through the woods.
Montour Trail was built by a local non-profit group and receives no government or foundation operations funds. Please help volunteers maintain the Trail by making a donation now!
FUNDRAISING CHAMPIONS
The Montour Trail Council (MTC), founded in 1989, builds, maintains, operates, and promotes the main line and branches of the Montour Trail.
The 2023 Gateway Engineers Tour the Montour is the MTC’s signature fundraising event, now in its 21st year. It is a family-focused fun bike ride with over 500 participants. Proceeds from the Tour support annual operating expenses such as trail resurfacing (MTC volunteers resurfaced over 6 miles in 2022 at a cost of $18,000+/ mile), repairing fencing and signage, maintaining the MTC’s heavy and light machinery (including fuel expenses), and placing more than two dozen chemical toilets trailside at a cost of $34,000 annually.
